Funke Bucknor-Obruthe was born 27 June 1976 to Segun and Shola Bucknor in Lagos State.  She had her basic secondary school education at Fountain Nursery and Primary School, Lagos, and Nigeria Navy Secondary School, Lagos before proceeding to obtain a degree in Law at the University of Lagos.

She was called to bar in 2000 After attending the Nigerian law school in Abuja.

Funke practiced Law briefly and was later employed at Tie Communications (an advertisement agency).

Her passion for the events services industry led her to start a company called Zapphaire Events (an Event Consultancy, Marketing, Planning and Management company) in 2002.

Zapphaire events has become one of the leading names in Event Planning with its clientele spanning across individuals, corporate bodies, and government agencies bringing about a substantial growth and awareness of opportunities in events industry.

Funke through her company Zapphaire events, runs an intership programme which has groomed several budding newbies in the events industry.

In 2014, she founded a décor company called Furtullah Concept & Design which she founded to fill the gap of service which observed in the Nigerian events market.

Funke Bucknor-Obruthe has featured in several publications and TV stations which includes: TW Magazine, Genevieve, The Punch, Thisday, Guardian, The Sun, Daily Independent STV, Channels TV, DSTV (Moments with Mo), 53 extra (on entrepreneurship).

She is the author of the book titled “The Essential Bridal Handbook” (A resource book that informs and educate brides on how to plan a flawless event and tips they need on planning their event and managing their budget).

She has planned and organized several high-profile events within an outside Nigeria which has won some awards and recognitions such as:

  • “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Nigeria’s most prestigious youth awards platform, The Future Awards (2006).
  • “Wedding Planner of the Year” by the Wedding Planner Magazine (2007).
  • Featured on CNN International’s Inside Africa for her extraordinary work planning a Nigerian Royal wedding (2011).
  • Go2girl Life Achievement Awards same year (2011).
  • Nigerian Events Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Events Industry (2012).
  • Listed in “10 Most Powerful Under-40s in Business” (2014).
  • Listed in the BBC’s 100 Women series (2016).

Funke is the Vice President of APPOEMN (Association of Professional Party Organizers and Events Managers of Nigeria) and an Associate member of WimBiz (Women in Management and Business).

Bucknor-Obruthe is married to Onome Obruthe, and they are blessed with two children.
