MOTIVATIONAL PERSONALITY OF THE WEEK: ONYINYE CHARITY OKOLIE
Onyinye Charity Okolie is the CEO and Managing Director of Sell Port Nigeria Limited. Charity hails from Anambra State, where she was also born. She is a graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), where she obtained a degree in Linguistics. In 2007 after her first degree, she went on to participate in the mandatory one-year Nigerian Youth Service Program.
Thereafter, Onyinye worked with AIICO Insurance Plc as a marketer for two years before she left. In 2013 She started working with Dulux (color centre) as a front desk personal, was later moved to a branch in Alaba International where she was saddled with supervisory responsibility, after which she transitioned into working as a full-time marketer for Dulux products.
In 2019, Onyinye Charity Okolie decided to resign from Dulux with a plan to venture out on her own and start up a cosmetics business with the savings she had amassed from overtime and her earnings from Dulux.
In August 2020, she established Sell Port Nigeria Limited which currently operates two branches: SP Cosmetics (sellers of all kind of skin care products, hair products, make-up and body care products) and SP Barbers (an affordable, convenient and good quality place to get a haircut).
Onyinye’s motivation for venturing out on her own was the determination to be independent and being her own boss.
She was also inspired by so many other entrepreneurs around her who had taken the entrepreneurial path and were doing very well. This challenged her to resign in 2019 to start up her own business.
She confesses that a lot of people had ideas of what business she should venture into but she held her ground and went for her passion/dream which is cosmetics.
She expresses that one of the major challenges she faces in her business is marketing, getting people to identify with SP Cosmetics and patronize her brand’s product given that the cosmetics industry is a saturated one.
In the coming years, Sell Port Nigeria aspires to be a household name in Nigeria, acquiring a bigger space at a more strategic business location.
She looks to expand into other industries like foods (farm products).
She is an active member of the choir in her local church.
Her final words for many looking to explore the entrepreneurial space are, “Be patient and watch your business grow”.
