THE GREAT TRAGEDY: ABULE-ADO EXPLOSION ROCKS LAGOS STATE

In the early hours of Sunday, March 15, 2020 at about 8:45am. An explosion which rocked the Abule-Ado area of Lagos State was caused by a truck after it hit gas cylinders stacked in a gas processing plant located near NNPC’s 2B pipeline right of way.
The effect of the explosion was felt several kilometres away in areas such as Ago Palace Way, Oke Afa, Olodi Apapa and even Maryland.
The Incident damaged no fewer than 50 buildings, vehicles and other nearby properties.
Amongst the damaged buildings was a nearby girl’s hostel belonging to Bethlehem International Catholic school which reported many of its students injured and others taken to the hospital. Bethlehem Girls College is owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos.
However, the heroic principal of the Bethlehem Girls School, Rev Sister Henrietta Alokha who diligently sort the safety of her students was reported to have died on her way to the hospital.
A couple returning from church service was also reportedly killed by the explosion.
President Buhari, Lagos State Governor – Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and many other national leaders have sent their condolences to the victim’s family of the Abule Ado Explosion.
